Relax, You’re in Good Hands
We hate poor accommodation, so all of our School rooms have been designed and specified by General Manager Jane Kinnear who simply won’t put up with lumpy beds or dribbly showers. In the event we can’t offer one of our school cottages or rooms for you, Jane has approved a range of nearby accommodation options to suit all tastes and budgets.
All of the School owned and run properties include:
- Bed Linen ( Not Towels)
- Free unlimited broadband ( except Shammer and Corner Cottage )
- Off road or un-restricted on road parking
- A shared Key safe entry system (so you can come and go as you please
- Decent showers and good plumbing
- Comfortable beds
- Food preparation area of some kind – from a simple microwave/kettle to use of a fully equipped kitchen (except Shammer House, see individual properties for details)
Syderstone – home of the Norfolk Painting School
In 2007 the School started in Martin’s studio in the North Norfolk village of Syderstone; it might be sleepy, but it’s friendly and has a smashing local pub, what’s more it’s just two minutes drive from the School Studios at nearby Tattersett. As a friendly family business we like to give students every chance to get together of an evening for a glass of wine and a chat about their day, so most of our accommodation is still in the village.
All of our properties are quirky Norfolk buildings from an Old Chapel to a wartime bungalow, an old studio and even a modernised 17th century pigman’s hovel. Wherever you stay you’ll get a a comfortable bed, a decent shower and a quiet patio or garden to sit out on in the evening.
Although mobile phone signals are erratic in Norfolk, our properties have complimentary BT superfast unlimited broadband so you can Skype, browse or stream to your heart’s content, ( except Shammer and Corner Cottage which get 4G)
Most of our students choose to eat out at one of the many excellent local gastro pubs or restaurants and chew over the day’s work. Personally we think you can’t beat fish and chips overlooking the pretty harbour at Wells.
The Old Methodist Chapel
A light filled converted chapel in the heart of a Norfolk village
We bought the Old chapel in 2004 as a family home for us in Norfolk, so it’s a much loved building, full of great light and good memories for hundreds of students. There is off road parking for one car and unlimited on road parking a few yards from the house. £100 a night for the whole Chapel or share with other students from £45 per night ( 3 sharing ) £55 per night (2 sharing)

Evening meals are not available, however you wouldn’t want to because Shammer is a two minute drive from several of Norfolk’s best gastro pubs including The Duck at Stanhoe. A modernised brick and flint cottage, with quirky original Norfolk features
Near Shammer House, two minutes from Burnham Market and an easy ten minute drive from the School, Corner cottage offers quirky self catering accommodation, in a typical Norfolk estate worker’s cottage. It has two bedrooms (one double, one kingsize), a small kitchen diner and lounge. The property has one downstairs shower room with WC and an upstairs WC. There is off street parking for two vehicles. Recently renovated with central heating, small garden for sitting out. IMPORTANT Corner cottage has a ‘Norfolk Winder‘ a traditional staircase which is narrow and steep. Although we have fitted it with handrails it is not suitable for persons with limited mobility. Cottage from £95 per night.
What to expect in North Norfolk
North Norfolk is one of the most beautiful areas in the country, with a wealth of walks, fantastic pubs and rural activities, however it is (very) dark at night, the roads are single track and you will need to travel some miles to get any bits and pieces you need. Consequently we strongly recommend that you come to the School with a car. If you can’t drive then the School can arrange private cab transfers from Kings Lynn station, Stansted or Norwich Airport – please call for a quote.
